Invitan a participar en el programa de capacitación “Hispanic Mentoring Program”

El Congreso Hispano Canadiense invita a participar en el programa de capacitación “Hispanic
Mentoring Program”, dirigido a profesionales acreditados en el extranjero en las áreas de trabajo social, finanzas y contabilidad.

Estimado socio/amigo del CHC: Es  un placer poder dirigirme una vez más a usted y poder enviarle un cordial saludo. Asimismo, me complace poder informarle que, en el marco de los esfuerzos que por mucho tiempo hemos estado realizando en apoyo a nuestros profesionales acreditados en el exterior, daremos inicio al Primer Programa Hispano de Capacitación, “Hispanic Mentoring Program”, en colaboración con JVS Toronto.

Como usted sabe, desde hace varios años hemos estado llevando a cabo diversas acciones en apoyo a los profesionales graduados en el exterior para facilitar su asentamiento profesional en este país, lo cual ha incluido el entrevistarnos con autoridades diversas y realizar foros al respecto. Ahora, a partir del próximo lunes 16 de marzo, iniciaremos este programa de capacitación para profesionales graduados en las áreas de trabajo social, contabilidad y finanzas, quienes van a ser apoyados para encontrar trabajo en su campo profesional.

En este momento estamos trabajando junto con JVS Toronto para difundir este importante programa, tanto para solicitar el apoyo de mentores en las áreas mencionadas, como para que las personas interesadas en recibir esta capacitación puedan registrarse y ser consideradas en el proceso de selección, ya que el cupo para cada área es de siete personas.

“HISPANIC MENTORING PROGRAM”

GENERAL INFORMATION
DATE: March 16, 2009.
LOCATION: 74 Tycos Drive (one block south of Glencairn – Dufferin and
Lawrence).
AREAS: Social Work, Accounting, y Finances.

MENTOR ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
-Belong to the Hispanic-Canadian community.
-Have more than five years of professional Canadian work experience.
-Be sensitive to challenges faced by newcomers to Canada.
-Have strong interpersonal communication skills.
-Enjoy sharing knowledge.
-Understand Canadian workplace culture.
-Be in good standing with relevant regulatory bodies in their industry.
-Know skills required to meet market demands.
-Be aware of licensing issues specific to their occupation/profession.
-Provide two references from members of the community.
-Make a time commitment of attending the training, program launch & five
mentoring sessions of 2-3 hours each over a period of four months.
-Commit to communicate with your mentees, Canadian Hispanic Congress & JVS
coordinators based on program requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
-As a mentor, you will:
•        Act as role model to Hispanic-Canadian newcomers.
•        Meet with mentees according to schedule and program requirements
•        Assist mentee in his/her job search process. This includes
referrals to resources, sector-specific labour market information,
exposure to employer expectations, Canadian workplace culture, employment
opportunities and increased networking opportunities.
•        Support and encourage the mentee in his/her efforts to find
suitable employment.
•        Jointly determine mentee employment goals.
•        Maintain regular contact with the Mentoring Program Coordinator
for the duration of the match based on program requirements.
•        Facilitate group process at mentoring group meetings.
•        Demonstrate responsiveness and effective communications in the
on-line mentoring relationships.
•        Serve as advisor, networker and leader in group mentoring
sessions with responsibilities such as:
o        Helping to determine a newcomer´s skill level and market demands
o        Suggesting appropriate companies to which newcomers may apply
o        Offering industry specific guidance with job search
o        Motivating and coaching newcomers to overcome their initial
Challenges
o        Advising newcomers of licensing issues specific to their
occupation
o        Introducing newcomer professionals to Iranian business
professionals through Canadian Hispanic congress networking events
•        Participate in the evaluation of the program at the end of the
mentoring relationship
•        Commit to filling out a session evaluation form after each
mentoring session.
•        Provide feedback on job search tools and strategies, including
resumes, cover letters, interview skills, etc.

MENTEE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
-Belong to the Hispanic community.
-Have a professional qualification outside Canada.
-Be seeking employment in the professional fields we are offering.
-Have worked in your profession in the past three years.
-Do not have Canadian experience in your profession.
-Have participated in or currently receiving some work preparation
assistance.
-Demonstrate level 6 – work ready written and spoken English language skills.
-Able to spend at least twenty hours a week in an active job search.
-Highly motivated and committed to looking for work in your profession.
-Responsive and willing to act on the guidance offered by your mentor.
-Able to commit to communicating with your mentor based on program
requirements.
-Committed to attending 5 mentoring sessions, not including the launch:
two sessions in the first month and then once a month in the subsequent 3
months.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
-As a mentee, you will:
•        Meet with and contribute to the mentoring group.
•        Maintain regular contact with referring counsellor.
•        Be able to spend at least twenty hours a week in active job search.
•        Participate in the evaluation of the program at the end of the
mentoring relationship.
